Presentation site or online store — when is it time to sell online?

Nikola CerićFounder & CEO, Manage IT

The move from a presentation site to an online store is not just a technical decision. Here are the signs it's time and what to prepare first.

Many companies quite reasonably start with a simple presentation site, and only over time, through daily contact with customers, notice clear signals that customers are actually ready to order directly over the internet, without a phone call or a visit. The question isn't whether to move to an online store, but when the right moment is to actually enable that possibility.

Concrete signs it's time to make the move

Customers are already actively asking "can I just order through the site" instead of always having to call or come in person — this is the clearest, most direct signal that demand exists.

Your product catalogue is reasonably stable and doesn't change drastically and daily, making it easier to keep accurate information and stock on the site.

You already have the logistics of physical delivery to the customer solved and a clear, reliable way of charging — without this, even the best online store remains just a pretty shop window without a real function.

What to prepare before the launch itself

Quality, professional photos of every product and clear, complete descriptions (dimensions, material, availability) answering questions before the customer even asks them.

A clearly written delivery and returns policy, visible and easily accessible on the site, because uncertainty about these rules is one of the most common reasons people abandon the cart without buying.

A concrete plan for who inside the company answers new orders and customer questions in the first weeks, while the process hasn't yet become full routine and the first difficulties are discovered along the way.
